Corning’s Gorilla Glass 5 promises to keep your phone safer from selfie-related drops

It has been a couple of years since we had a new glass to talk about. With Gorilla Glass 4 being introduced in 2014, it was only a matter of time before we saw something new for the leading mobile tech glass maker. And today we got it in the form of Gorilla Glass 5.

Gorilla Glass 5 promises to protect your phone even better than the previous version while also improving image clarity and touch screen responsiveness. Gorilla Glass 4 was able to give your phone a better chance of withstanding drops from a waist-height. With the newer version, Corning is claiming a 1.6 meter drop(about 5 feet) on rough surface will have a 80% chance of survivability. Check out the video below to see a little more about it.

Though personally I will be holding out judgment until phones with the glass start shipping out it does look promising. By the way, Gorilla Glass 5 is commercially available now. So chances are the next crop of flagship devices will be sporting this tougher glass.
