Today Moto took the cover off the latest in their affordable Moto G line. And much like the Moto X last year we are seeing three new devices; the Moto G4, and Moto G4 Plus, and the Moto G Play. Each one has its own little thing that makes it different from the rest.
Lets start with the Moto G4. This is of course the fourth generation of the Moto G line and with that comes some much needs improvements. First, the screen is no longer 720p. This year Moto went with a 1080p panel. Not only that but the screen size has seen a bump up to 5.5 inches. Unfortunately, fans of smaller screens will be left looking elsewhere. Inside you will find the onto-core Snapdragon 617 SoC paired with 2GB of RAM. For storage you will have 16GB to play with. On the camera front you will find a 5 megapixel camera while in the rear there is a 13 megapixel one. And keeping this all humming along is a 3000mAh battery.
So what make the Moto G4 Plus worthy of the plus in its name? You are still looking at the same size screen and battery — features that normally see an increase in plus models. But you do get a fingerprint scanner on the front of the phone which Moto is promising will read your print in 750ms. You will also get an improved camera experience with its 16 megapixel camera with a f/2.0 aperture, Phase Detection Autofocus, Laser Autofocus, and manual controls. The Moto G4 Plus also comes in one more storage and RAM option than the Moto G4; adding a 3GB RAM with 32GB of storage variant in the mix.
And what does the Moto G Play bring to the table? It’s durable and splash-resistant. You actually will see less in the way of specs with the Moto G Play. Inside it has a quad-core processor and 2GB of RAM. The front camera remains the same at 5 megapixels but the rear camera is 8 megapixels. And the battery inside is rated at 2800mAh.
All three will be rocking Android 6.0.1 Marshmallow. Both the Moto G4 and G4 Plus will be customizable via the Moto Maker site. And as far as availability goes both the Moto G4 and Moto G4 Play will be available in Brazil starting today. The Moto G4 Plus will be available in India today too. The North America, Europe, Latin America and Asia Pacific release will be happening later with prices in those areas revealed closer to their release dates. As for the Moto G Play; you will be looking at a summer release for that phone which given its splash-resistant nature seems right.
