Mattel and Google give the View-Master a modern make-over

If you are around my age then you probably have some memory involving a View-Master. It’s a toy that still till this day never gets old in the minds of those who grow up with the classic red toy. So today’s news brings a little smile to my face. Mattel and Google have teams up to give the View-Master some modern touches; with the help of Google Cardboard.

For those unfamiliar with the original View-Master; it used reels to show you awesome places and things. The new version of the classic –which was unveiled today at an event in New York– works much the same with a twist. That twist being it rely on both “experience reels” and an Android-powered smartphone bring you an augmented reality experience. The great news hear is that despite how expensive that may sound it’s less pricey than other options. The New View-Master itself will set you back $29.99 and comes with one experience reel. Mattel will sell other reels in packs of three for $14.99.

The sad news here? This isn’t going to be available until the fall. And living in the snowiest city in the US; that seems really far away.
