Motorola’s Project Ara hopes to bring Build-a-Bear customizability to your smartphone

Chances are you have either made a bear at Build-a-Bear or know the idea. You go in, pick your new un-stuffed friend, stuff them, and pick out what you want for them. What if you could do that with your smartphone. Imagine being able to decide what parts your phone would have? That is the hope Motorola has with their Project Ara.

Motorola says that they “wants Ara to do for hardware developers what Android has done for software developers.” This sound like a loathe goal but also sound like an amazing idea. The phone will be built around an endoskeleton that modular parts like the display, keyboard, CPU, camera, and battery will fit into. They have been working with Phonebloks on this project and are hoping to release an alpha version of their MDK(Modular Developer Kit) this winter.
