After months of rumors and speculating it is finally here. Well, not here, here but at least unveiled. Samsung has just announced the Galaxy S3. Lets start with the info that will come as no surprise, this is running Android 4.0.4 or Ice Cream Sandwich. It would be bad if a flagship device was shipped without the latest software. Now for the fun stuff!
The Galaxy S3 has a 4.8 inch HD SuperAMOLED display. It will be powered by a 1.4GHz quad-core Exynos Processor and 1GB of RAM . For cameras there is a rear 8 mega pixel and a front-facing 1.9 mega pixel. It is DLNA enabled, has GPS NFC, Wi-Fi Direct, and Bluetooth 4.0. The GS3 packs a 2100mAh battery. That not the largest phone battery available but it should be more than enough power to keep this phone running. As far as size goes. Everything is stuffed in a 8.6mm frame that weights in at 133 grams. Again, not the thinnest thing in the world of smartphones, but it is pretty sleek with its unique curves. They say the design was inspired by nature. Things like the curves of rocks and water.
As far as storage goes, there will be a 16GB, 32GB, and 64GB version. There is a microSD slot which can take a SDXC card. That will allow you to add up to another 64GB of storage.
As you would expect from a Samsung flagship phone this is running TouchWiz. There are some really cool improvements made to the phone thanks to the new version of TouchWiz and the hardware. S Voice will allow the phone to be controlled by your voice. You will be able to wake up the phone and give it other commands. You can check the weather, launch apps, take photos, all by voice. The phone will be able to respond to your eye movement using SmartStay. This way it will not go dark while you are reading something(thank you Samsung). Direct call will call contacts that you are texting if you raise your phone to your face. There is also Social Tag which will automatically tag your friends in your photos; even if that picture is just in your Gallery. Once you take a picture it will also offer to send it to the friends in the picture automatically with BuddyShare. GroupCast will let you share what’s on your screen with other GS3 users and DLNA devices via Wi-Fi. A very amazing and cool feature is Pop and Play. This will allow you to truly multitask; minimizing a video you are watching, move the video around the screen and do something else while still watching it(the example Samsung showed).
The Galaxy S3 will sport 3G/HSPA+ and LTE. The LTE one will be available in the summer. The phone will launch at the end of this month in Europe. Then it will be available in Asia, Africa, and Latin America. As far as colors it will come in Marble White and Pebble Blue.
