Skype updates its Android app to add Video chat; only good news for some

When it comes to Skype, Android users always seem to be playing catch up with iOS. It isn’t a fun fact to tell Android owners, but it is a true one. However, today it comes just a few steps closer to its iOS counterpart with the update to Skype 2.0 which adds video chat. But this is not for all. This update will only bring video chat to the Nexus S, HTC Desire S, Sony Ericsson Xperia Play, Xperia Neo.

For those with any of the devices listed, you can now enjoy video chat to other Skype users. And you can do so over Wi-Fi and 3G! This has been a long time coming so enjoy it. For everyone else, the update adds a new user interface and support for SMS. If you have a phone with a front-facing camera you are probably wondering if you phone will get some love. And the answer to that is, there is a chance, but I have no idea when. This is just a first phase launch though so more should be added in the coming months.
